Canatuan, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte- Ear biting is not exclusive to Mike Tyson. Last July 8, 2007 a member of SCAA, the special armed unit of the AFP employed by mining company TVIRD, bit the ear of Rodrigo C. Segovia of Canatuan, Siocon.

According to the sworn statement of Mr. Segovia that on July 8, 2007 at about 8 o’ clock in morning he went to the house of his neighbor situated at Canatuan, Tabayo, Siocon Zamboanga del Norte and within the ancestral domain of Timuay Jose Anoy, to help the preparation for the birthday celebration of the son of his friend. He even do the cooking.

At around 9 in the morning Mr. Segovia noticed the arrival of John Oglos who works for the mining company TVIRD as a member of the SCAA. Mr. Segovia didnt mind the presence of the SCAA member for he knows that Mr. Oglos is a relative of his friend. He even joined the drinking session of the group after cooking. As the celebration progressed, Mr. Segovia thought that everything will be just fine.Everyone was in festive mood.

At around 7 in the evening while everyone was busy talking and joking, John Oglos who was obviously drunk approached Rodrigo Segovia and challenged him. This surprises Mr. Segovia but without much words, John Oglos hit Mr. Segovia with an empty bottle. A fist fight started between them until they both sprawled to the ground and that was the time when John Oglos bit the left ear of Mr. Segovia causing to lose almost one half of its part.Not satisfied, Oglos bit the nose, left cheek, and the lower and upper left of Mr. Segovia’s chest

Rodrigo Segovia after that incident had to spend at least 30 days at his home. He wasnt able to do farming activities which greatly affected the lives of his family all because he is known to the SCAA and the mining company TVIRD as anti-mining.
