Residents of Barangay Kiwalan, Iligan City are facing an imminent landslide. Based on the findings of Mines and Geosciences Bureau of Region X, any time from now, a landslide will likely to occur at a portion of Jose F. Yanez road in Kiwalan and will affect 5 Barangays in Iligan: Kiwalan, Bunawan, Hindang, Kabacsanan and Bonbonon.

Through the topographic map prepared by the MGB, a greater portion of Kiwalan will be affected and there’s a possibility that the directly impacted area is Barangay Bonbonon. This is probably due to the Bonbonon Fault.

The City Council of Iligan already passed an Ordinance declaring a state of calamity within the affected area.

In an interview with the Brgy. Captain of Kiwalan, Hon. Roderico Y. Dumaug, Jr., he said that they are looking at a possibility that Mining Operations in the area is one of the contributing factors though they are still waiting for the official pronouncement from the Office of MGB X.

At present, pre-disaster activities are initiated.
